Bruised Knees / Tenderness / Community Noise Band / & More / Jan 28 2012


COMMUNITY NOISE 001 / 2012! 

SATURDAY, JANUARY 28TH 

BRUISED KNEES (11:15pm)

Subtle and textured, driving and noisy, dual vocal, post-punk art rock. Ex-The Creeping Nobodies and many others. The loose and unofficial theme of the night is ‘reconstruction’. 

OPEN HOUSE BAND (10:15pm)
Community Noise Open House Band! Some core members, some guests, some instruments and noisemakers for crowd participation. This project will configure itself differently for events and venues while working to bring ideas, bodies, events and spaces into motion. 

TENDERNESS (9:30pm)

Incredible, quirked out, homemade grooves, gorgeous songs and voice, Chrissy Reichert puts on a pretty stellar show. Experimental r’n’b for 2012/ 2013. 

OPEN MIC COMMUNITY MEETING (8pm) 

Our open meetings are an opportunity for different community members and groups to introduce themselves, their ideas and their projects. People are welcome to sign up for one minute or up to 15 minutes, or to show up and say a few words. Time will be set aside for an open mic and some discussion and exchange. 

OPEN HOUSE / COMMUNITY TABLES / ART ACTIVITY (7pm-end) 

Open House - come out and mingle and check out the Bike Pirates space. 
Community Tables – If you’ve got info, zines, flyers, mailing lists, merchandise, crafts, etc, we would be open to stocking them as part of our ongoing, growing distro. You can drop them off with us beforehand or come and share a table as space allows.

Occupy Toronto - Activist Assembly presents a social and dance party!

TONIGHT! SATURDAY! After the evening's General Assembly at O.I.S.E. 

DJs / PAs: CABALLO + Kalmplex + members of the Bass Culture collective. 

CABALLO /

Producer, DJ, MC, blogger for Diplo's Mad Decent label, will throw down a live Latin / hip hop / bass PA around 11pm.

KALMPLEX /

Toronto underground hip-hop DJ, will take over at 11:30, mixing up hip hop, r'n'b, world music, and jungle.

BASS CULTURE COLLECTIVE /

Love At 528 Hz (Indigo Children), Jerus Nazdaq, Hadiman, and Spazzmonk (Om Reunion Project) will set us off and bring us back home. 1960s/ 70s pop/ soul/ funk, tropical grooves and Balkan beats, glitch and tech house, dubstep and world bass?


OPEN to the public, no conference registration needed, but we regret that it is 19+. Let us know please if you are interested in wheelchair accessibility.

FREE but donations are requested, $0 to $10 to $100. Hoping to compensate the djs and recoup room costs from the whole incredible and FREE conference.

Puppeteria is an Ohio troupe producing radical puppet theatre out of recycled trash. Their play 'Monkey & Bear' explores themes of exploitation, patriarchy, and capitalism. The play's second act is a shadow puppet and accordion adaptation of Joanna Newsom's song of the same name.
